In one line

The original cloth or paper survey sheet a village map was drawn on.

The musavi is the base survey sheet produced at settlement, from which shajras and tatimas are copied. Older musavis are cloth-mounted and are the ultimate reference when a boundary is disputed and the copies disagree.
