Setback
Building regulation
In one line
The open strip required between the building and each boundary.
Setbacks exist for light, air, privacy and fire access. They are usually set by plot size, by building height, or by the width of the abutting road — and they are measured to the building line, so a balcony or a chhajja projecting into one is a violation even when the wall is compliant.
