One ECS is the space one car needs including its share of manoeuvring aisle — commonly 23 m² for open parking and about 28 m² in a stilt or basement, where columns and ramps cost area. Requirements are expressed per 100 m² of built-up area, often with a floor of one ECS per dwelling.
